Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. After moving to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma enrolled at The Dragon School. From the age of six Emma knew that she was going to become an actress and for some time she attended the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre academy where she studied singing dancing and acting. Her performances had been in numerous Stagecoach and school productions before she turned ten. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone was the film of 2001 adaptation from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Emma was found by agents via the recommendation of her Oxford teacher. After a string of auditions for eight consecutive times, the producer David Heyman told Emma and the other candidates Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they were selected for the roles of three of the leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's debut on the big screen took place in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone made in 2001. The film broke records for beginning-day and weekend-opening sales as well as being the most-grossing feature of 2001. Critics have praised both the film and performance of the three principal young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a frequently read British paper, praised her for her outstanding performance. Emma's performance was nominated and received five awards for the movie.
